1600 Blankets

Can you picture 1,600 of anything?

If you were passing out 1600 doughnuts you would have to have 133 boxes to pass the doughnuts out  by the dozen.
In a classroom of 25 students, each student would need to bring 64 pencils to have 1600 pencils.

Now, picture 1600 blankets. The Dothan Stake Relief Society Presidency pictured 1600 blankets to be distributed as part of the December 2012 Brown Bag program. Did we picture the blankets all at once in a big pile? Not hardly. The blankets were pictured one by one as Sisters in the Dothan Stake collected them and brought them to Relief Society.
In bundles and boxes and in bags, they came slowly, but surely throughout the year. The picture of 1600 blankets grew each month as they were moved from the Stake Center to the Brown’s storage shed (Thank you, Brother and Sister Brown!).

Once the goal had been reached, the blankets were moved from the shed to the Wiregrass Area Food Bank. Our youth as well as other members helped package the blankets to be distributed.

The Blanket project of 2012 was successful. We ended with exactly 1600 blankets for distribution. When we started the project we could not see 1600 blankets but we knew with the Lord’s help we would.

Did we see all the help we would have along the way? Not really. However,  the Lord did and knew we could accomplish this task.
